This week we will complete the following SOLS/activities:

During reading, we will continue working on short vowels, cvc words.  We will learn about words that double final consonants, and words that end with "s" to make plural words.  We will talk about how to evaluate a story.  This will allow the class to voice their opinion about the story and back it up with supporting details.

We will continue to work on place value in math.  We are working on writing and identifying numbers to 50 as well as how to represent those numbers using base ten blocks.  I am also working hard with the class to "prove" their answers.  I want them to be able to use words/pictures to prove that they truly understand why it is and not just because.

We will finish talking about the season of Fall.  We will have Dr. Slunt come in this week and do a lesson about Fall later in the week.  Pictures on that to come.

Reminders for the week:
NO SCHOOL on Tuesday----this is a teacher Professional Development day
Wednesday----Field trip!!
Please continue to send in Boosterthon Fun Run money.
Report Cards will be coming home on Thursday!

Have a great week!

Summarizing/Retelling the Story

The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything!

We have been working on how to retell/summarize a story.  We learned that when we retell a story we included the important parts of the story.  We used this story and fun props to help us with this strategy.
