Happy Fall!

I hope you were all able to enjoy the beautiful weekend!  We have another busy week ahead of us but I know they are up for the challenge!

Our social studies connection will be learning about communities and local government.  We will talk about how our local government is elected, how volunteers help our community, and what a community is.

Book orders are due tomorrow---you can order online.
Interim reports will go home on Thursday.
This Friday, October 3, is a HALF day.  Dimissal time is 12:25.

This week we will begin Reading groups!!!  I am so excited for this phase to begin especially so early in the year.  During reading groups, we will read books that are on our own reading levels.  We will also work on word study, sight words and work on reading strategies.  We will read a book about Elmer the elephant and how he is different from the other elephants.  With this book, we will talk about Diversity.  We will write about how we are all special and different.  We will continue to work on the writing process using this topic.

We will work on number sense and place this week in math.  We will do lots of counting and sorting objects into groups of 10.  We will play lots of games that help the students practice putting numbers into the correct order.  We will also talk about number sequence, before and after.

We will continue to work on Diversity.  This week we will focus on families and how not all families look the same but we all still have loving foundations.  We will focus on how each member of a family has a job to do.  We will also talk about what our own families look like.

This week we will be doing PALS testing.  Please make sure your child arrives to school on time and ready to go.  We will continue to learn new sight words according to the county standards.  We will work on making predictions and inferring during whole group reading.  We will also work on rhyming and ending consonant sounds.  This week for writing we will write about our favorite part of me.  This is a cross curriculum activity that also works on realizing that we are all special.  We created a really cute video last week about ways to fill someone's bucket.  I could not post it to the blog without putting it on youtube first ( which I did not want to do ).  Therefore I will show the video at Back to School night.

This weeks sight words are:
little, down, up, away, not, said, for, look

In math, we will review making patterns, extending patterns and identifying the core of the pattern.  We will do this using lots of manipulatives and some tasty treats.

In theme, we will talk all about ME!  Please remember to send in your child's me bag on Monday or Tuesday.  We will be sharing on those days.  I am very excited to learn more about each child and their families.

Reminders:
Please send in a snack for your child daily.
We will have a guidance lesson this week with Mrs. Kopley.
Please continue to complete homework and return on Friday.
You ALL did an awesome job at this last week.
Please join PTA if you can, they do many things for our students and school.
Fall picture day is next week.

Have a great week!

Week 2....Well, we made it through week 1 and will continue to work hard as we enter week 2!

This week we will review beginning consonants, learn how to retell a story using our retelling rope and learn more about stations.

We are free writing each day for about 5 minutes and I am allowing the class to share with a partner.  We will then spend the rest of writing time taking a piece through the writing process.  This week we will talk about how to fill someone's bucket.  Check back later this week for a short bucket filling video.

We will focus our attention on geometry this week in math.  We will look at shapes, their attributes and sorting.

We will continue to talk about being a good citizen and how to PRR with pride!

Homework will begin on Monday.  It will begin your child's folder and should be returned on Friday.  Please understand that we would like for your child to complete the main homework and 2 options.  This should not take much time.

Please continue to send in a snack daily with your child, NO CANDY!
Also a reminder to send in a light jacket as it does get chilly in our classroom.

Thank you for your support and as always if you have any questions or concerns please email me or call the school.
