WOW! Time sure is flying by! Only 2 more weeks until winter break and we are trying to fit it all in. They are doing are a great job of absorbing it all!
This week we have lots going on:
Monday- Please send your child to school in a green shirt and pants if possible. We will be doing the play in the afternoon for the school. It begins at 1:30 and you are also welcome to attend this performance.
Tuesday- Play performance will be done at 9:30. Please send your child to school in green again. Then return to school at night between 6:30-6:45pm for the night performance also wearing green.
( if your child has a speaking part, I will be keeping costumes at school )
This week we will continue to read, read, read. We will be learning about clusters with s, scr, spr, sn, sl, etc. We will also briefly learn about kn, gn, wr ( harder concepts to master ). We will talk about comparing and contrasting while reading. We will also continue our sequencing writing. We learned to use the words first, next, then and last to tell others how to do something. Last week, we wrote about how we eat Oreo cookies and even did some taste testing. This week will write about How to build a snowman. FUN! Thank you for your support on continuing to practice word study at home. They rocked the tests this past week! The goal is to have them see these pattern features in other words and be able to make the connection with reading and spelling.
We have been focusing on addition and will move to subtraction this week. The goal is to get students to "see" the numbers they are adding and not just memorize the fact. I want them to make connections between number equations. For example if they know that 3+1=4 then they should be able to figure out that 3+2=( one more than 3+1 ) We will be doing the same things with subtraction. We are only working on numbers to 10.
We have been studying maps. We will continue to learn parts of a map and then begin to use them in creating our own maps and reading maps.
Next week, we will be making gingerbread houses to place on our WES map in our room. This will require donations. I will send home that letter tomorrow. Be on the lookout for that.
Again, thank you for your support. The class is making great gains and working hard! Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Beltz
